USEPA Section 608 Certification Class & Examination

The federal government of the United States requires all individuals who open a system or container holding a controlled refrigerant to be certified. Persons who work on stationary equipment or use refrigerant designed for these systems can become certified by passing a proctored Section 608 examination.
 
The GCA Trades Academy is offering a one-day certification course and examination for candidates seeking Section 608 certification in any of three equipment categories plus Universal.

March 2008 Current Employment Report

The Guam Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics is pleased to release the March 2008 Current Employment Report.

Total employment on Guam dipped slightly in March 2008 in the preliminary figures.  While the job count declined in the latest quarter, the total remains slightly above what it was one year ago.  

In the latest quarter, employment in Retail Trade declined by 140 jobs from the December holiday period.  Several other industries showed slight declines this quarter including Construction, Manufacturing and Finance, Insurance & Real Estate.  Over the year, Construction and Services were up somewhat bringing the private employment total up by 490 jobs.  

Federal employment dropped 90 jobs in the latest quarter but remained up by 90 over the year. Government of Guam employment increased seasonally in March but declined by 310 jobs over the comparable period of one year ago.

 In comparison to private sector figures, one quarter ago in  March, average hourly earnings, average weekly hours paid and average weekly earnings were down slightly; they are virtually unchanged from the comparable period of one year ago.

The Unemployment Situation on Guam: September 2007


The Guam Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the September 2007 unemployment rate was 8.3 percent, an increase of 0.9 percentage points from the 7.4 percent collected in September 2006. In September 2007, the number of people employed reached 58,290, a decrease of 3,230 from the previous results. Of the total employed, the immigrant aliens (PRA) category showed a decrease of 1,810 from the September 2006 report of 16,150 to 14,340 in September 2007.

The total number of people unemployed in September 2007 was 5,310, an increase of 420 from the previous survey in September 2006 of 4,890 unemployed. The unemployment rate for several of the reported categories increased.

The persons not in the labor force, who were persons not employed and not actively looking for work, numbered 6,490, an increase of 6,590 from the previous survey of 39,900. Of the persons not in the labor force, 8,870 desired to work but did not search for employment during the reference period for reasons presented in Table 2.
