Eloise Baza Scholarship for Trades Students |
Guam Chamber of Commerce names new scholarship in honor of late
President Eloise R. Baza
HAGÅTÑA, GUAM - The Guam Chamber of Commerce in
collaboration with the GCA Trades Academy (GCATA) is pleased to
announce the establishment of the Eloise R. Baza Scholarship
for students pursuing a skilled trade journeyman designation
at the GCATA. The Chamber will award up to five (5) $250 scholarships
per month to students enrolled in the GCATA apprenticeship program.
This new scholarship honors the late Eloise R. Baza, president of the
Guam Chamber of Commerce from 1985 - 2007. Ms. Baza
was a dedicated professional and a true leader who had great influence
in the economic development of our island.
"It is only fitting that this new scholarship honor Eloise who has been
an inspiration to those seeking excellence in education and furthering
their professional development" said Reina A. Leddy, President, Guam
Chamber of Commerce. "We hope the scholarship will benefit as
many of our people as possible who have the sincere desire to learn a
trade or improve their work skills."

CMTF Labor Subcommittee Weekly Report February 3 -9, 2008 |
Background: On
January 28 & 29, 2008, the Regional Workforce Development
Council (RWDC) and stakeholder representatives met to discuss
strategies for years one and two of the 5-year strategic plan as tasked
by the WMCE. Members from Guam, Palau, CNMI and FSM attended,
as well as Mr. Tim Donahue from the Hawaii Office of Insular Affairs,
Department of Interior. The University of Guam (UOG)
Economics & Community Systems team conducted a two-day
Appreciative Inquiry sessions to determine priority issues and
strategies that will be incorporated in the five-year strategic
plan. The Civilian Military Task Force (CMTF) Labor
Sub-Committee, Guam Community College (GCC), Guam Trades Academy, and
the Guam Department of Labor (GDOL) & Agency for Human
Resources Development (AHRD) Transformation team provided presentations
at the two-day session.
