The Unemployment Situation on Guam: December 2005


The Guam Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the
December 2005 unemployment rate was 7.0 percent, a decrease of 0.7 percentage
points from the 7.7 percent reported in March 2004. In December 2005, the number of
people employed reached 59,630, an increase of 2,820 from the previous results. Of
the total employed, the U.S. citizen category showed an increase of 2,840 from the
March 2004 report of 43,530 to 46,370 in December 2005.

The total number of people unemployed in December 2005 was 4,500, a decrease of
210 from the previous survey in March 2004 of 4,710 unemployed. The unemployment
rate for many of the reported categories in Table 1 declined.

The persons not in the labor force, who were persons not employed and not actively
looking for work, numbered 40,850, an increase of 2,590 from the prior survey. Of the
persons not in the labor force, 6,450 desired to work but did not search for employment
during the reference period for reasons presented in Table 2.
