Current Employment Report - June 2008 PDF Print E-mail
The Guam Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics is pleased to release the June 2008 Current Employment Report.

Total employment on Guam dipped in June 2008 in the preliminary figures.  While the job count declined in the latest quarter, the total remains slightly above what it was one year ago.  Employment declines, associated with both public and private educational institutions, accounted for most of the usual seasonal decline in June, although some of the reduction was in tourist-related activities including Transportation, Hotels and Trade.

In the June 2008 figures, employment in Retail Trade declined by 570 jobs, Services by 270, Transportation and Public Utilities by 80.  Construction showed a slight increase this quarter. Over the year, Construction and Services were up by 140 and 220 jobs respectively.

Federal employment increased by 30 jobs in the latest quarter but was up 130 over the year. Government of Guam employment decreased seasonally in June  and was 70 positions below the comparable period of one year ago.

Private sector average hourly earnings and average weekly earnings were virtually unchanged over the latest quarter; they are up two percent from the comparable period of one year ago; average weekly hours paid were virtually unchanged.
