2005 PASSPORT-TO-CAREERS Print E-mail
The Guam Public School System in conjunction with the Department of Labor, Agency for Human Resources Development, Guam Community College, Department of Administration, Department for Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities, Guam Memorial Hospital Authority, University of Guam, Department of Public Health and Social Services, KGTF, Office of the Attorney General, Department of Public Works and the Department of Land Management prepare to facilitate the 2005 Passport-to- Careers Youth Employment Program during winter break to provide secondary students in the Career Path the opportunity to receive job entry skills in the Career Path as mandated by Public Law 21-132.

Goal

To prepare all public high school students in the Career Path with skills and competencies to enter the workforce.

Purpose

Provide the opportunity for Guam’s youth to participate in the job market identified by the power of e3 within the: Construction Trades, Allied Health, and Business Technology industries.

Objective

To provide an employment experience that prepares for job entry skills and practical knowledge of the workforce environment.  To infuse a year-round employment experience for students in the Career Path.

Activities

During the 2005 winter break, the Passport-to-Careers Youth Employment Program will commence with approximately 170 students working in the public sector to receive employment experience in the various industries such as Construction Trades, Allied Health, and Business Technology.  The goal is for students to integrate their academic learning into the workforce.

Guam Public School System- Pacific Vocational Education Improvement Project (PVEIP) Funds

Participants

174 participants have been selected to work this winter break (December 19-31)

  • 80 are returning students who have participated in the previous summer program
  • 94 participants are new to the program and have been identified to the year-round program with a placement in a specific industry (Construction Trades, Allied Health, and BusinessTechnology).
  • 21 participants in Construction Trades (DPW)
  • 42 participants in Allied Health (GMHA, DPHSS, DISID, DMHSA)
  • 31 participants in Business Technology (DOA/MIS, DOL/AHRD, KGTF, DLM)
